We stayed in a quiet, country Airbnb away from the crowds, and while it wasn’t close to the byway, we genuinely loved the peaceful reset it gave us. That said, next time we’d likely split the difference and stay closer to the Talimena Scenic Byway for easier access.
Day 2 Stops
Naaman’s BBQ – Broken Bow, OK
After driving the Talimena Scenic Byway, Naaman’s BBQ was what we needed — hearty, filling, and comforting. Like many places in the area, it was busy, which seems to be the norm during peak seasons. If you’re visiting in the fall, plan for crowds or consider eating earlier than usual.
Hochatown Animal Rescue & Petting Zoo – Broken Bow, OK

We did not map out all the scenic pull-offs ahead of time, which would have made this trip much easier, since many overlooks on the Oklahoma side aren’t clearly marked. As we were driving, we kept seeing Bigfoot cutouts, businesses embracing the theme, and someone dressed like Bigfoot on the side of the road advertising a vendor’s fair.
After seeing Bigfoot everywhere, we had to stop and research what all the hype was about. We were surprised to learn that this region has more reported Bigfoot sightings than any other region. This gave the drive a quirky, playful vibe we did not expect.
